If you are looking for a nonsurgical way to turn back the clock, then this year’s fastest-growing anti-aging treatment could be the answer.
The thread lift is an easy way to smooth wrinkles and tighten sagging skin without going under the knife. We’ve seen a huge increase in the number of inquiries about thread lifts and it’s estimated to be the biggest cosmetic trend this year.
The procedure involves inserting threads into the skin which are then pulled tight, lifting the skin and underlying muscle to create a tighter, smoother complexion.
As the threads dissolve naturally, the skin starts to produce more collagen and elastin which gives a longer-lasting result. The threads are inserted through a tiny incision in the skin so there is no scarring after treatment.
Thread lifts can be used to treat a number of different areas, from smoothing horizontal and vertical forehead wrinkles to lifting the brow and outer eyebrow area and restoring volume to sagging cheeks. They can also smooth lines around the mouth and tighten sagging skin under the lower jaw.
We have recently used the same technique to tighten sagging skin on the body including the neck, decolletage, tummy and bingo wings.
Best results are seen around six weeks after the procedure and depending on the type of threads used, results can last up to two years.
There's a new (or newish) option for lifting and tightening sagging facial skin without going under the knife. Thread lifting is making the use of temporary, absorbable sutures a viable option for those who want to achieve similar results of a traditional face-lift without the surgery or downtime.
So, how does the new and improved thread lift hold up against the popular “liquid facelift?" A thread lift procedure takes as little time as a treatment using a combination of fillers (about an hour) and recovery time is just one or two days. Results will vary, but can last anywhere from 18 months to a few years and additional threads can be used at a later time to maintain results. Because the cones continue to stimulate collagen, the results continue to improve over time. But, thread lifts won't be replacing dermal fillers anytime soon. According to Dr. Few, to achieve optimal results its best to combine procedures. “Used alone, results can last up to 18 months,” says Dr. Few. “But we often use the absorbable suture lift in combination with fillers, lasers and other nonsurgical facial treatments to create a ‘stackable treatment,’” he says. “The results are expected to last several years when combined with other treatments and wear off gradually.”
